Dirty Dancing has been voted the most popular film of all time in a survey conducted by DFDS Seaways, sponsors of the Northern Lights Film Festival.
DFDS Seaways’ survey of over 2,000 participants from around the country asked the question: ‘What’s your favourite film of all time?’ Results overwhelmingly hailed the 80’s classic, Dirty Dancing as the clear favourite.
Singing its way into second place, but with only half the votes of Dirty Dancing, was Grease, whilst the sci-fi favourite, Star Wars stole a close third place.
The top 10 results are as follows:

4. Gone With The Wind
5. Sound of Music 6. Ghost
7. Shawshank Redemption
8. Pretty Woman
9. Lord of the Rings
10. Top Gun
The Northern Lights Film Festival is an international event showcasing the talents of independent film makers from the UK, Baltic and Northern Europe. This is the second year that DFDS Seaways has sponsored the iconic event, giving local and international film makers the chance to use the big screen to challenge the mainstream.
The festival runs from 16-23 November at the Tyneside Cinema and selected cinemas across the region.
