A quality cleanser has to remove make-up, impurities and excess oil thoroughly and still keep the skin well-moisturized and most important not leave the skin with a tight and taut feeling. Facial cleansers unclog skin pores and help to prevent acne and other skin breakouts.
Most facial cleansers in the market, even the most expensive ones, contain harsh, alkaline cleansing agents like Sodium Laureth Sulfate and SLES, Synthetic Fragrance or Colors, Myristic, lauric or palmitic acids and others. While it remains a question mark whether SLS and SLES can cause cancer, countless studies have confirmed that SLS and SLES are extremely harsh and drying on human skin. You should check of the ingredient label and make sure your cleanser will leave the skin and senses feeling totally refreshed and happy, instead of harming it.You can always use homemade fruit acids to clean your face. Use grapes, lemons, oranges, apple juice, to clean oily skin and remove blackheads. They cleanse the epidermis, allowing the body’s natural emollient oils to reach the surface cells and help moisturize and relieve dryness.
I have normal to dry, sensitive skin and I often use a homemade formula using ½ cup of cornmeal and some honey, (olive oil or yogurt) . For a gentle facial cleanser mix ingredients, smooth over entire face avoiding eye area, leave it on for ten minutes or so, then wash it off with warm water. The benefits become evident as soon as you start to remove it, your skin starts feeling soft and smooth.
I hope my Neutrogena cleanser isn’t bad for my skin!
