WhFeeling good about the way you looky do some people go under the knife? People I know to seek out cosmetic surgery generally have a positive self-image, despite being unusually focused on one or more aspects of their appearance. In fact, some even feel better about their overall appearance than do people who aren’t interested in cosmetic surgery. But is that the only method to improve your psychological well-being? I assisted to some of my friends excitement before the surgery, but none really talked to me about their fears and alternatives. I have to agree their surgeries had great results, but I can’t help thinking it could’ve been otherwise. What about then?

We all need to feel good about how we look and maximize our look. Sometimes the reasons that determines us, women to make big life changes are depressions, brake-ups or making some guy more interested. I’m not saying that is not enough reason if you really believe it is, but I have to say the surgery isn’t the right solution to your problem. Or at least you should look for an alternative…
Some of us think we should read tones of books before having a child. I can’t wait to be a mommy and I read some (even though I haven’t decided when it will happen), so I guess the joy I feel reading this books you can get reading about cosmetic surgery when you consider it an option for the ‘big change’.
There are well written books on the market and well researched that can give you some insides on the risk you’re taking or help you to find out if your new look will really give you a plus of self-confidence. I recommend you Feeling Good about the Way You Look by Sabine Wilhelm, PhD, director of the BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder Clinic) and Research Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital.
This book revolves around a cognitive-behavioral therapy program that changes how you think about your appearance.Teaches you to organize your thoughts, asses satisfaction about various body parts, behavior and rituals. Then to set goals. Wilhelm provides questionnaires and worksheets to guide you and help direct your thoughts. She teaches you to recognize and eliminate your negative thoughts – which are really bad for your feelings of self-worth. It’s hard work, and it’ll require you to delve deep into your thought and behavior patterns, but at the end you’ll likely be a lot happier with your body. Your thoughts will be more positive, your self-acceptance high, and your feelings of self-worth strong and healthy.
Wilhelm also discusses when it’s appropriate to take medication (if, for instance, your body image beliefs have morphed into Body Dysmorphic Disorder and have been diagnosed by a doctor) and if/when you should consider plastic surgery.

Do you know someone who’s cosmetic surgery addict? What could you share from your experience? How is CS changing your life? Love to hear from you!

Plastic Surgery is DANGEROUS and will only lead to a feeling of emptiness.
    Or so I heard.

I like what this book is trying to tell people. Positive thoughts and self-acceptance is the most important thing which can really improve one’s appearance. Nice from the inside is the best!

That is so true, Oveido. Sometimes I feel bad about myself, and no plastic surgery would cure that. Accepting myslef is what will make me like myslef, not going through an operation out of vanity.

I feel ok when I am on my own, but when I go out and see all those beautiful women out there, I think I am ugly!

  5. rory Says:

Sometimes I feel exactly the same as you.

glad I am not the only one!

I think many people feel like this.

  8. KittiChai Says:

well it’s really a struggle to feel confident with yourself. I wish they would teach you stuff like that in school because that’s what everyone needs!

  9. rory Says:

That is true. It’s an important thing.
