Today I scooped out this pair of Dior sun glasses I bought last summer. I don’t know about you, but I have a hard time finding eyeglasses to like. On this model the problem was that it covers my eyebrows and I didn’t knew if that’s ok. I’ve done some research and it seems that the frame shouldn’t be way over the brow line or noticeably lower. I always match the eyeframe or sunglasses color with something (hair color, outfit, my eyes color, jeweleries) and they should definitely match my skin tone. For many of us, the most important aspect of choosing eyeglass frames is how they look on our face. To make sure you’ll buy only eyeglasses that look best on you, you simply need to determine that suits your face shape and read about which eyeglass frame styles and colors would work in your favor. There are seven basic face shapes: round, oval, oblong, base-down triangle, base-up triangle, diamond and square. Here’s you guide:
- Oval Face. An oval face gives you the greatest freedom in selecting a frame shape - you can wear nearly any frame style. Select a frame that is just slightly wider than the broadest part of your face. Keep the size and weight of the frame proportional to your body size and weight.
- Diamond-Shaped Face. The goal is to add width to your forehead and jaw, and make your cheekbones appear narrower. Choose softly curved frames that are no wider than your cheekbones. Square frames or frames with a straight top and rounded bottom are also good choices. Avoid decorative temples, which will exaggerate the width of your cheekbones.
- Round Face. The goal is to make your face appear longer and thinner. Choose low, wide rectangles and other short geometric shapes. Frames with hinges located above eye level can help lengthen the face. A Bridge located near the top of the frame can also add length.
- Square Face. The goal is to make your face appear longer, with softer curves. Choose oval or slightly angular frame styles with curved corners. Frames with hinges located above eye level can help lengthen the face. A bridge located near the top of the frame can also add length.
- Triangle-Shaped Face. The goal is to add width to your forehead and make your jaw line appear softer and narrower. Choose frame styles that angle up and outward at the top corners. For women, cat’s-eye shapes are flattering. For men, square frames are attractive. Frames with rimless bottoms are also good for both men and women. Frames with temples and bridge located near the top of the frame are best.
- Inverted Triangle Face. The goal is to make your forehead looker narrower and add width to your jaw line. Choose frame styles that angle outward at the bottom. Aviator and “bow tie” shapes are good choices. Rectangular styles are also good. Frames with temples and bridge located near the middle of the frame help balance facial features.
- Oblong-Shaped Face. The goal is to make your face appear wider and shorter. Choose round styles or geometric shapes with generous vertical dimensions. Decorative temples or temples with contrasting colors can help add width. Frames with temples and bridge located near the middle of the frame are best.

I have a round face and love glasses that are squared off as they slim your face down.

I think it’s funny how most people with sight problems hate going out in glasses while lots of people think glasses are chic and even go out in them when their sight is perfect!

I would love it if when describing the right eyeglass fram for the shape of the face, you would put a pictures of those styles. It sure would help. I have an oblong face and even after reading your description I am still unsure as to what to look for. HELP!!!!

Deb, you should wear round and oval shapes because the accentuate the width!

That sounds accurate, because round faced people must wear squared-off glasses to thin their face.
