I have had many readers request information on hairstyles. This post is an answer to my dear reader Nat’s question: What should I do with my new (first time) bangs?
A major change of look isn’t as pleasant as it should be. Looking at yourself in the mirror next morning can give you a headache, but the important thing is to focus on the reasons that made you choose it in the first place. More over, if it isn’t something drastic like cosmetic surgery, you can always return to your favorites. As I said in my previous posts bangs are cool, and of course you might feel your hair down looks kinda tacky if you’re not used to it, but it’s possible to be wrong about it. So, if you were advised by a stylist get used to your new look, smile more and don’t say your opinion to anybody! Just enjoy the compliments. So, let’s see your options!

- I also love to wear my haircut with bangs differently each day. I adapt my hairstyle to the way I’m dressed and of course to the occasion. Besides high ponytail (I understand you like), I wear my hair down, wavy and even curly.

- You can I wear a headband with a knot at the back of your neck like for holding back your bangs, and it looks cute with sideswept bangs as well. This also works for ponytails, or you can tie t
he ponytail scarf around your hair elastic into a bow.
- You can use styling products to hide your bangs or blow dry it do different directions you want it to flow. Use a round brush to straighten it, if you have wavy, curly hair.

- You might also like your hair twisted into a bun (if the length isn’t equal use gel to fix it, or let it come out for a casual wear). I had this hairstyle today with a ponytail scarf around it, and at the tie resulted in a cute bow.

- I very often pin my bangs back and up in the middle, or clip it up lower with sports wear. This hairstyle works also with low, plait ponytail or bun.

- Grab the top layer of your hair and put it into a little ponytail, and clip it high at the back. Leave your bangs out!
- You can also secure the top layer of your hair into a ponytail, twist it into a little bun, and clip your bangs up. Looks great
Do you have a comment about this topic? Any suggestions? I would love to hear from you!

hey..
thx a lot! this helped… a lot!! I appreciate it.. I made an impulse decision to get bangs. I was sleeping over at my friends house and I was just really tired with the same hairstyle. so I asked her to cut it for me and she did and now Im getting used to it.. I really like bangs =D also… u no clipping your bangs up? how do you do it with so much volume? because when I tried it, a lot of it started coming out and it didn’t have that much volume. thanks a lot again!

Hi Nat,
Yes, I can clip my bangs up already (it grows fast). If your bangs are too short it will certainly come out, but don’t worry you’ll have 1-2cm plus next month. Anyway, my tip is to backcomb (brush your hair the opposite way) for volume, then spray it with some flexible hold spray. For shorter bangs use gel or mouse before blow drying it in the position you want, push it forward and use bobby pins that cross in an X to secure the ends.Practice will give you more ideas for your specific type of hair.

I cannot live without my bangs. Never have - never will!

I’m not too fond of hilary’s hair in the picture where she pins her bangs back. I often have a style like this: http://a570.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/01108/96/59/1108539569_l.jpg

I think this little blog was pretty helpful. I did really want a bang a couple weeks ago, so I cut it, but now that it’s getting warm, I’m already tired of it. I really do still love the bang though, because it covers my huge forehead, but I will definately try some of those styling ideas listed above on the warm days.

Thank you so much for the tip! I just got bangs yesterday and at first I loved them because you know how hairstylists can make your hair look perfect…but the next morning I wanted to cry! I hated it so much and I’m going to England in fourteen days. I still don’t really like the bangs look on me, but now I feel better about it because of what you said and your comments on staying positive! Thanx!

I’m thinking about getting longish bangs that are sideswept like Jen Garner’s.

These are really great tips, but I was wondering if you could give us some on which bangs look you should have for your shape of face, if you should even have bangs at all for some??

I also made an impulse decision to get bangs some time ago and I think it was the best I could do because it gives your face a “frame” and an instand hairstyle!
But I found my bangs to get greasy very quick, do you have any ideas what I could do?
I tried using dry shampoo but it didn´t work….

@crissy
I can just tell you:
think about what you want to hide or to accentuate in your face? if it´s very long or you have a large forehead you should get bangs to make it look shorter and cover your forehead.
the opposite goes for short faces, they might look even smaller with bangs!

Some people look really bad w/ bangs….

I’m not into the too short bangs, but some longer ones that you can sway to the side are cool

I was looking at these photos, and must post that Lauren Conrad should b there! She always wears her bangs in cute headbands.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:24 pm
I wish I could pull off short bangs but my forehead is too short for that!
December 6th, 2007 at 5:19 pm
But Kitti, you can still get longer bangs, right?
December 9th, 2007 at 5:58 am
Yes but than I have no eyes!
December 9th, 2007 at 1:34 pm
Hahah! But there are people who pull of long bangs w/ out blinding themselves.
December 10th, 2007 at 3:39 pm
hmmm but it could be a new way to hide undereye circles
December 10th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
Amy Wino’s bee hive should be the next trend.
December 11th, 2007 at 12:11 pm
yes, already see it a lot
December 11th, 2007 at 6:57 pm
It is popular on runways.
December 12th, 2007 at 1:47 pm
oh, where have you seen it? *excited*
December 12th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
I think Chanel had it recently on the catwalk.
December 13th, 2007 at 8:46 pm
Hilary Duff looks like a horse in this picture.
December 14th, 2007 at 1:43 pm
i think she looks ok, her hair is great, very 60s mod like
December 14th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
Yes, but they highlight her horse-like features.
December 15th, 2007 at 3:33 pm
Something that looks bad- when people have curly hair and straighten their bangs. It looks wierd.
December 15th, 2007 at 4:47 pm
I think she looks a lot better with bangs because her face features seems to be balanced with it. Without bangs her nose looks long and her eyes are a spotlight when they shouldn’t!

I just got bangs yesterday and they were super cute. I washed them this morning so I could see what they looked like. Now they look like crap and I hate them. The girls at the beauty shop keep saying my hair is in shock and about a week it will look great but I still hate my hair. Does anybody have any ideas.
