I’ve asked my hairstylist for a shagg (a layered hairstyle) so many times, but never find a product line designed to enhance and define layers. Looking for this kind of line I’ve learned that Joan Jett’s Hairstylist Sally Hershberger recently created a Shagg Line. Sally also provided answers to some of my questions for you.
But first, may be wondering how you particularly should choose your shagg, what you should ask from your stylist.
Depending on your personality and time reserved for styling you have at least two options: If you want to take the look in a more severe direction ask for a shorter style that has lots of layers of all lengths for a choppy, rock star look. Or more subtle version would be something a little less drastic - longer, softer layers.

Here are Sally’s Answers and her Styling Tips:

What is a Shagg?
- A shagg is really any layered cut.
Why is it so popular?
- It’s a very versatile style that can work with many different hair types.
What product we should use on daily bases so it would look defined and arranged?
The key to a great shag is using the right products. To really make the most of layers use lightweight, residue-free formulas so your
layers aren’t weighed down.
How exactly do we style a Shagg?
- First, rough dry hair Use my Shagg Spray in dry hair and blast with a blow dryer
- Shape with your hands, which is so much easier than using a brush to create texture and pieciness for a great messy, sexy look in seconds
- To refresh the look, give the style a few quick additional spritzes
- Further define your layers with a gel, I use my Shagg Rocks Liquid Gel to create further separation. It’s simple, just pull a little through the hair using your hands.
Hope you enjoy her tips!
